26 February 2017 (2.30pm
service, New Creation Church at Star Vista)
- My key takeaway from sermon
delivered by Pastor Joseph Prince
I kick-started my 2017 with hectic schedule, workload and deadlines.
Instead of sharing notes of the whole sermon, I will share my key takeaway
from the service, from my perspective.
While I have been staying up late, sleeping late, having irregular meals
just to handle my work assignments, I started to think – what does it mean to
be at peace? Does it mean that one should not have much work to do, in order to
experience bliss in life?
Today’s sermon comes timely for me. It answers my above questions.
Rest is not inactivity; rest is spirit directed-activity.
When God reveals to you something, God wants you to do something.
However, God wants you to move in the rhythm of grace and not in anxiety.
We walk in the rhythm of grace when we follow the rhythm of Holy Spirit.
2 Timothy 1:6-7
Therefore
I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on
of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
“A spirit of fear” is stress.
God has not given us stress but the spirit of power, love and a sound mind. A
sound mind here means saving our mind and heart.
Our mind needs saving to become poised, calm
and balanced.
We will receive gift
of the Holy Spirit.
God has a supernatural gift for you. It’s called praying in spirit. By praying in tongue, we pray in
spirit. While we are anxious, we should pray in tongue.
Isaiah 30:15
For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: "In
returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness
and confidence shall be your strength." But you would not,
If we see level 10 as a level of high anxiety, 0-5 is the range of quietness and confidence.
The world desperately needs rest.
In the Bible, we can see how God moves in the rhythm of grace.
No one is busier than Jesus, and yet, no one is as calm as
Jesus.
Jesus was crossing the Lake of Galilee just to deliver one man from
demonic possession. Jesus was very tired
after a long day, and he fell asleep in the boat despite violent storms. His
disciples were panic throughout the stormy trip while Jesus was peacefully
asleep. They eventually woke Him. He arose and rebuked the wind, and
said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" (Mark 4:39). But He said to
them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"
(Mark 4:40).
Upon landing, He went to the man and cast the demon out of him.
Then He crossed
over again by boat to the other side. He was immediately received by Jairus, one of
the rulers of the synagogue. Jairus begged Him to heal his little daughter who was at the point of death. Jesus went with him, and a great
multitude followed Him (Mark 5:24). On the way to house of Jairus, a woman who
had a flow of blood of twelve years touched His garment and was healed of the affliction
instantly. Jesus was still able to stop to speak to the woman even when He knew
that there is another vital task ahead for him to take action. He said to the
woman, “Daughter,
your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your
affliction." At this point, some
people ran out of the house of Jairus and reported that the daughter was dead.
However, Jesus was calm and collected. He said to Jairus, "Do not be
afraid; only believe."
Jesus
followed Jairus to his house and raised the daughter from the dead.
From calming the storm to casting the demon out from a man to healing a
woman and raising a girl from the dead, all these were performed in one day.
Also, Jesus did not run. He walked.
We walk in the rhythm of grace when we follow the rhythm of Holy Spirit. God will put us at the right place at the right time. Don’t be worried.
